Carlton Monroe Penn, 85, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg. Rev. Thomas Brookshire will be officiating. Burial will be held 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, S.C. with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jonathan Penn, Collin Penn, Nicholas Fanelli, Anthony Fanelli, Craig Bell and Dak Adamson.
Mr. Penn was born on May 10, 1932 in Hazelhurst, Georgia. He was the son of the late Homer A. Penn and the late Mattie Lee Thomas Penn. He retired with twenty-two years of service from the United States Air Force. Mr. Penn was a former Quality Control Manager at Hughes Aircraft in Orangeburg. He was the owner and operator of Penn’s Sight and Sound. He was a member of the Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle, the Masonic Lodge in Georgia and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Mary Strickland Penn of Orangeburg; children, Steven and Janice Penn of Denison, Texas, Kenneth Penn of Denver, Colorado, Susan and Paul Fanelli of Memphis, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Jonathan and Kelsey Penn, Collin Penn, Rachel and Brad Stevenson, Megan and Craig Bell, Kara Penn, Nicholas Fanelli, Kristen and Dak Adamson and Anthony Fanelli; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Penn, Eleanor Penn and Paisley Bell; sister, Carolyn Minix of Douglas, Georgia and his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Strickland of Orangeburg.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans at 6437 Garner’s Ferry Road Suite 1129 Columbia, S.C. 29209.
