David Cecil Corbett, 88 of Orangeburg went home to be with the Lord surrounded by family on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

The family will receive family and friends at Thompson Funeral Home on Monday, January 8, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m.

His homegoing service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Columbia Road Church of God, with Bishop L. Keith Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.

Pallbearers will be Mike Corbett, Troy Corbett, Brian Corbett, Chad Corbett, Brock Corbett, Andrew Corbett, and Josh Black. Honorary pallbearers will be the Columbia Road Church of God Men’s Bible Sunday School Class.

Mr. Cecil “Popa” Corbett was born August 8, 1929, in Sawyerdale, the son of the late David Elvin and Florence Estelle Corbett. He was the widower of Ida Mae Vaughn Corbett. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Monica Day Corbett, two sisters Marjorie Jeffcoat and Hazel Rawls, and two brothers A. C. Corbett and Frank Corbett. He was a member of Columbia Road Church of God Men’s Bible Sunday School Class. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a devoted husband for 62 years. He was loved so very much by his family and friends, and was known for his wit, sense of humor, hard work, and “doing things the right way”. He will always be remembered and missed by everyone. He was a US Army Veteran in the Korean War and served in England for 2 years. He worked at Hygrade Meat Packing Plant and retired from the USDA as a federal meat inspector with more than 26 years of service. After retirement, he also worked on the family poultry farm for 18 years.

Survivors include; two sons, Mike and Tessa Corbett of Summerton and Troy and Michelle Corbett of Orangeburg; eight grandchildren, Brian and Carla Corbett of Summerton, Chad and Crystal Corbett of Bowman, Brock Corbett of Chicago, Chris and Rachel Clare of Durham, North Carolina, Andrew Corbett of Columbia, Eva Marie Corbett, Clara Mae Corbett, and Jack Hunter of Orangeburg;  eight great-grandchildren,  Hannah Corbett, Bailey Corbett, Josh Black, Lacey Corbett, Brooke Corbett, Tess Corbett, Vaughn Clare, and Harris Clare; one brother, Scott and Cheryl Corbett; a special sister-in-law, Leila “Aunt” Jackson, and also sister-in-laws, Peggy Corbett and Shirley Tindall. He also has a special “family group” that he met each morning at Hardees.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Grove Park Hospice. Your knowledge and expertise, along with your compassion and caring spirit, brought great comfort to our family during this time. Thank you for your love, kindness and support.
