Joan (Horton) Metts

Mrs. Joan Horton Metts, 84, of Freedom Road, Branchville entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 8, 2017.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Ott Cemetery in Branchville, S.C.  Rev. Billy Williams will be officiating.

Mrs. Metts was born on August 23, 1933 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.  She was the daughter of the late Lee Horton and the late Doris Phillips Horton Cooley.  She retired from Utica/Cooper of Orangeburg.  She was a dedicated member of Memorial Church of the Nazarene of Orangeburg.  She enjoyed reading and gardening.  She was a faithful friend and loved helping others.  Mrs. Metts was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Metts, their three children, Barbara Joe Metts, Diane Metts, Frank H. “Bubba” Metts, Jr., a sister, Burlene Horton West and a nephew Terry West both of Cerra Gordo, Illinois.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Bud West of Cerra Gordo, Illinois; two nephews, Randy West of Cerra Gordo, Illinois and Rawly Judy (Ann) of Aiken; three nieces, Harriet Irick (Jimmy) of Orangeburg, Gail Dunning (Robert) of Columbia and Phyliss Carter (Doc) of Ruffin;; special friends, Shirley and Steve Holloway and Larry Myers and Vicky Marchant all of Branchville.

Flowers will be accepted or a memorial may be made in her memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Association at 537 Long Point Rd Suite 203 Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 or to Memorial Church of the Nazarene at 569 Berry Street Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
