Melvin Russell Obituary

Melvin R. Russell, 83, of Orangeburg passed away on Sunday , April 15, 2018.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Scott and Russell family cemetery. Rev. Billy McGugan, Sr. will be officiating.

He was on born January 4, 1935 in Holly Hill, S.C.  He was the son of the late Drake Russell and the late Azalea Platt Russell.  He was a self-employed carpenter.  He was preceded in death by three brothers; O.R. Russell, Waddell Russell and Ralph Donnie Russell.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Coin Russell of the home; two step-sons; Jamie Minton of Charleston and Michael Minton of North; daughter; Gail Royals of Pearson, GA; son, Melvin R. Russell, Jr. of Germany; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; Betty Watts of Rincon, GA, Dorothy Clamp of Little River, S.C., Sally Browning of Lakeland, GA and Rosemary Spires of St. Matthews and seven brothers; Darvis Russell of Bowman, Otis Russell of Orangeburg, Lawrence H. “L.H.” Russell of Cope, S.C., Drake “D.R.” Russell Jr. of Santee, Delvert Russell of Valdosta, GA, Milton Russell of Orangeburg and Ray Russell of Springfield, S.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
