SFC Thomas Allen Porterfield, Sr.

SFC Thomas Allen Porterfield, Sr. , 68,  passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg. Burial will follow at Ott Cemetery in Branchville, S.C. with full military honors.  Rev. Larry Williams will be officiating.                

Pallbearers will be Andrew Garrett, Vincent Buckey, Mark Jackson, Ozzie Jeffers, Jimmy Horger, Dylan Horger, Levi Johnson, Shelton Sistrunk and Ronnie Adkins.

Mr. Porterfield was born on May 13, 1949 in Albemarle, N.C.  He was the son of the late James Porterfield and the late Mary Frances King Porterfield.  Tom was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He retired from the United States Army National Guard.  He also retired from the Orangeburg County Clerk of Court Office as a Processor.  Tom was a member of Cameron Baptist Church.  He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Porterfield and a son, Mark Alan Garrett of Cordova.

Tom was a devoted husband of 36 years and a he was a devoted father.  His survivors include, his wife,  F. Janet Porterfield; sons, Tommy (Cynthia) Porterfield, Jr. of West Columbia and Eddie Garrett of Summerville; granddaughters, Ashley (Vincent) Buckey of Summerville, Franny (Kevin Pineda) Garrett of Miami, FL, Rachel (Brandon) Frye of Kenston, NC, Shelley (Michael White) Garrett of Fort Mill and Addison Renee Porterfield of West Columbia; a grandson, Andrew (Megan) Garrett of Cordova; great-grandchildren, Khloe, Rhoan, Peyton, McKinley, Hunter and Brendon; a sister, Mavis (Gene) Horger of Orangeburg; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann West of Eutawville and Joyce Jeffers of Moore; brother-in-law, Edward “Bubba” (Johnnie Mae) Winningham of Cross and a number of nieces and nephews..

Friends may call at the residence.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
