Heaven has gained a new beautiful angel. Sadye Mary Deep Union, 96, of Orangeburg, S.C. passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg. A celebration of Sadye’s life will be held from 6:00-8:00P.M. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Sadye was born on May 5, 1921 in Macon, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Mary Tabet Deep and John Kaliel Deep, who were both immigrants from Lebanon. Sadye was predeceased by her four brothers and one sister. Her youngest sister, Amelia White, resides in Milledgeville, Georgia. It was at Amelia’s wedding that Sadye met the love of her life, Mitchell Union. They dated no more than ten times and were married in Macon, Georgia at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on December 30, 1951. Mitchell Union who passed away on April 9, 2016 was a United States Naval pilot, and thus their life-long adventure began.
Sadye and Mitchell were blessed with five children, their loving spouses and grandchildren; Tony Union and his girlfriend Deanna Jordan of Boiling Springs, S.C., Ricky Union of Orangeburg, S.C., Melody and Joseph Sliker of Johns Island, S.C., Chris and Nancy Union of Charleston, S.C., and Dene and Michael Fulton of Oxford, Mississippi; grandchildren, Brittni, Chelsea, Alex, Austin, Russell, Ellen, Laura, Josh, Jake and Maryana. Sadye is also loved and adored by numerous nieces and nephews.
Sadye was known for her creativity and participated in many community organizations. She was an active member of the Pilot Club of Orangeburg and she was honored to present the prayer before every meeting. Sadye was passionate about her faith and attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg. She was also a member of Hoe and Hope Garden Club. She adored flower arranging and earned the status of being a Flower Show Judge. She also was an avid bridge player and she maintained a gorgeous flower garden at her home.
We will miss Sadye’s presence in our lives but the goodness, kindness and love that was exhibited throughout her long, wonderful life will be forever in the memories of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
