Shirley H. Mount, a resident of the Cordova community, died Saturday the 1st of July at The Medical University of South Carolina after an extended illness.​

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Canaan Baptist Church in Cope.  Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.  Pastor Richard Ehrhardt will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be  Kenneth Hughes, Chase Mount, Clarence Hall, Ryan Smoak, Mike Jeffrey and Chris Dyches

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Members of the Adult Sunday School Class.

Born on May 18, 1956 in Sumter, S.C., Shirley received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from the University of South Carolina. She continued her education at USC, from which she received her Master's Degree.

Shirley taught Math and Computer Sciences at Carver-Edisto Middle School for 28 years and at Andrew Jackson Academy for 8 years. She was a very dedicated teacher and passionate about the education of children. Shirley loved each of the students she had the pleasure of teaching.

Shirley's favorite hobbies were reading, taking photos, and activities with her church, but the thing that brought her the most joy was her family. Family time was her favorite time, and she savored every moment. Shirley always thought of others before herself and would pray for others needs even before her own. Mrs. Shirley was a lifelong member of Edisto Baptist Church; director of Vacation Bible School for over 10 years and a member of Women on Missions. Mrs. Shirley was a loving wife and mother, she always put others above herself.

She is survived by her husband; Robert Mount, Sr. of the home; 2 sons; Brooks (Heather) Mount of Cope and Robert Mount, Jr. (Rebecca) Mount of Cordova; 4 grandchildren; Andrew Mount, Connor Mount, Lily Mount and Makenzie Mount.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Edisto Baptist Church Youth Department, C/O Kenneth Hughes; 3566 Cannon Bridge Road, Cordova, SC 29039.

Friends may call at the residence of Brooks and Heather Mount.
