Gene Felkel Obituary

Gene Carlisle Felkel, 86, of Elloree, S.C. passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Gene was the husband of Mary Jones Felkel.

Gene was born in Cameron, S.C., the son of the late Richard and Allie Wiles Felkel.  He graduated from Cameron High School in 1955.  Gene was a member of the Army National Guard for nine years.  He was a carpenter for many years before working for the Albemarle Corporation and retiring after 32 years of service.

Gene enjoyed going to the North Carolina mountains as often as he could go. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and shrimping.  His main love was making people laugh while telling all his memorable lifelong stories.

Gene was a member of Jericho United Methodist Church in Cameron, S.C.  He was a member of the choir, a church trustee for many years and an active member in Sunday School.  He loved his wife of 65 years dearly, his three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, his two sons, Ronald (Linda) Felkel, Douglas (Debbie) Felkel; a daughter, Julie (Michael) Brown; two sisters, Elizabeth Miller, Reba (Landis) Sandel; a sister-in-law, Loretta Felkel; four grandsons, Daniel Felkel, Blair (Sammie) Felkel, Alex (Emily) Brown, Christian (Sarah) Brown; two great-grandchildren, Trace Felkel and Robbie Felkel.

Gene was predeceased by his father, mother, brother, Allen Felkel and a sister, Janice Rickenbaker.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Jericho United Methodist Church, Cameron, S.C.  Rev. David Phillips will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Greg Davis, Nick Felkel, Derek Rickenbaker, Michael Smith, David Felkel, and Christian Brown.

The honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Felkel.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association National Center at 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231.
