Clarence Laverne “Smokie” “Bernie” Smoak of Cameron, S.C. passed away at RMC on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg. Rev. Cindy Williams will be officiating.
Mr. Smoak was born on August 20, 1934 in Bamberg County. He was the son of the late Hoyt R. Smoak, Sr. and the late Willie Dell Tant Smoak. He served in the United States Army and the United States National Guard. He was predeceased by his brothers, Hoyt "Buck" Smoak, Jr. and Joseph "Joe" Smoak.
Survivors include his loving friend and caregiver of many years, Jennie B. Valentine; sons, Chris Smoak (Gloria) of Lexington, Randy Smoak (Lynn) of Rincon, GA; five grandchildren, Mandy, Deanna and Benjamin Smoak of Lexington, S.C., Rachel and Travis Smoak of Rincon, GA; Jennie’s children, Ricky Valentine of Branchville, Karen V. Shieder (Warren) of Branchville, Marvin Valentine (JoAnn) of Aiken, Cindy V. Strock (Danny) and Tammy Weeks (Timmy) all of Cordova; Jennie’s grandchildren, Blakely Valentine (Dawn), Fletcher Valentine (Katie), Leeanna Beiry (Adam), Jason Valentine (Laura) and Jared Shieder, Meagan Strock (Scott); Jennie’s great-grandchildren, Sophia Valentine, Kentlee Jax Williams, Chloe, Maddi, Blakeley “Bubba” and David Valentine and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff on the third floor of RMC for their loving care and support during this time.
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. following the memorial service on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
