Duane Olivia Gay Sterling, 89, of Orangeburg, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Midway Freewill Baptist Church, 287 Lower Meigs Rd, Moultrie, GA 31768. Rev. Randy Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service. Directed by Cobb Funeral Home in Moultrie, GA.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Philip Fanning, Kenneth Hammond, Steven Lyons, Sam Gay, Billy Sterling and Michael Zamora.

Mrs. Sterling was born on September 27, 1930 in Moultrie, GA. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Furman Gay and the late Mary Leola Bishop Gay. She was a graduate of Moultrie High School. Mrs. Sterling was retired from Greenwood Mills and Fashion Fabrics in Orangeburg. She loved the Lord and her family. She enjoyed her flowers, “playing in the dirt", sewing, and cooking for her family. She was predeceased by her husband, John S. Sterling, Jr.; her sister, Dovie Thompson; her brother, Gerald Gay; and her foster brother, Lamar Dalton.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Newton (Kenneth Hammond) of Orangeburg, Tammy Lyons (Michael Zamora) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Amanda and Philip Fanning, Jason and Courtney Sterling, all of Orangeburg, Steven Lyons (Jelitsa Fonseca) of San Diego, CA; step-grandchildren, Mary Lyons (Austin Heffner) and Laura Lyons, all of Staten Island, NY; great-grandchildren, Thomas Fanning, Travis Fanning, Frankie Sterling, Abigail Sterling, Charley Sterling, all of Orangeburg; step-greatgrandson, Bradley O’Neil of Staten Island, NY; brother, Roscoe Gay (Jo) of Moultrie, GA; sister-in-law, Elaine Gay of Gainesville, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
