Harry Eugene (Gene) Sanders, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 5, 2017.      

**The casket will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral service.**   Funeral services will be held at  2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Cordova.   Rev. Brian Self and Rev. Kenny Baltzegar will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Cordova.

Pallbearers will be Tony Sanders, Franklin Sanders, Mike Sanders, Patrick Sanders, James Sanders, Aarron Sanders and Braxton Butler.

Mr. Sanders was born on August 19, 1940 in Sumter County.  He grew up in Conway, S.C. but has lived in the Orangeburg-Cordova area for the past 50 years.  He was the son of the late Archie B. Sanders and the late Ella Hucks Sanders. He taught at Cope Area Vocational Center for 31 years and he worked with Nascar for 17 years.  He was awarded Orangeburg District #4 Teacher of the Year and S.C. Vocational Teacher of the year.  Mr. Gene was a member and former deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church.  He was a founding member of the Edisto Jaycees.  He was Past Master of the Progress Lodge 356 and a member of the Omar Shriners.  Mr. Gene was an avid Clemson Tiger Fan and a longtime supporter of IPTAY.  He loved Nascar and Go Kart racing with his sons; camping with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Windell Sanders and Edward Sanders and sisters, Patricia Sanders and Wanda Sanders.

Survivors  include his wife Catherine Carolyn Nobles Sanders; sons, Harry E. Sanders II and A. Phil Sanders (Penny) all of Cordova and Thomas W. Sanders of Orangeburg; grandchildren, Courtnee Sanders, Gene Sanders, Mary-Catherine Sanders, Weathers Sanders, Heather Carson and Hailey Carson; a great grandchild, Raelyn Sanders; brothers, Herman Sanders of Gresham, Delano Sanders, Tom Hucks, Jimmy Sanders, Paul Sanders, Larry Sanders; sister, Rhonda Butler all of Conway and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call  the residence.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Edisto Primary School Gymnasium.
