Mary Grace Howell Union, 89, of Orangeburg passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at her home.  She was born on March 3, 1928 in Norman Park, Georgia.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary Etta Cone Howell.  Grace graduated from Norman Park High School at the age of 16 and attended Norman Park Junior College where she was voted Most Athletic.  She worked for Allied Department Store and in the business office of the Regional Medical Center.  Grace was predeceased by her husband, James Joseph (Jimmie) Union, Jr., a daughter, Sandy Fersner Turner, and a grandson, Jus Stabler.  She was also predeceased by six sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by six children, Candy Berry, Bobbi (Jerry) Hughes, Debbie (Ernie) Odom, Connie (Bucky) Harris, Bonnie Stabler (Kevin Strausser) and Jay (Kim) Union.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sadie Union and Inez Howell as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was “Manue” to numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind adored friends of more than seventy years, Bessie Clifton and Ramona Milhouse.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Vann Beth Shuler and Dr. Mark Krzyston and the nurses and the staff in their offices who always treated her with kindness and respect.  Also, thank you, to Donna Duncan, Trina Charles and Gracie Franklin for their loving care.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.  Father Wil Mwape will be in charge of the Funeral Mass.

Pallbearers will be Grace’s grandsons, Lee Fersner, Carter Fersner, Ty Haigler, Jason Hughes, Eric Odom, Trae Stabler and James Joseph Union.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to the Orangeburg County Council on Aging at 2570 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, S.C. 29118.
