Albert "Hank" Mccollum

Albert “Hank” McCollum, 68, of Orangeburg passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Hank was born in Orangeburg County to the late Albert McCollum and the late Elizabeth Bunch McCollum.  Hank was employed with the Orangeburg Fire Department for many years.  He was named the firefighter of the year in 1984.  His love of music led him to a part-time career of being “DJ Hank” for over 25 years.  Hank never met a stranger.  He loved people and loved making people smile.  He wore countless hats over the years, from Santa Claus to the Easter bunny.  He was a member of Cameron Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge #12 in Orangeburg, the Edisto Shrine Club and the Orangeburg Elks Lodge # 897.  He was the recipient of the Officer of the Year for 2023-2024 for the Orangeburg Elks Lodge # 897.  Hank was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister-in-law, Sybil “Wanda” McCollum.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Tina Jackson McCollum; stepsons, Wesley Fogle (Deanna), Matthew Fogle; grandchildren, Abigail Fogle, Elijah Fogle, Joanna Fogle; brothers, Regan McCollum, Wade “Chico” T. McCollum (Jamie); sisters, Alma Annette Bunch, June Coats (Mike), Pat Pennington (Marshall); a special sister, Delores McCollum and a number of nieces, nephews and additional family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Steet, Orangeburg.  Pastor Chris Furtick will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 4830 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and at other times friends may call the residence.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Willie Dash, Charles Bowers, Jimmy Myers, William Fiddie, John Reid, Aaron Rudd, Scott Hupp, Otis Boyd, Richard Slolasky and Richard “Ricky” Pooser.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Orangeburg Elks Lodge #897.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital at 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
