Alva "Al" Wells Dannelly, Jr.

February 21, 1964 — April 28, 2025

Mr. Alva "Al" W. Dannelly, Jr., age 61, passed away on April 28, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born on February 21, 1964, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Al spent his life deeply rooted in the land and community he loved.

A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Al was the proud owner and operator of Dannelly Poultry Farm. Through years of dedication and hard work, he built a livelihood that reflected his passion for farming and the outdoors. His commitment to agriculture was not just a career but a way of life that brought him joy and purpose.

Al is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ruby Kemmerlin Dannelly; sisters, Karen D. Gambrell and Robin Chavis (Thomas); and brother, Robert Dannelly, Sr. He also held a special place in his heart for dear friends Chasity Hutto and her daughters Paisley Grace and Chloe. Al’s legacy continues through his nieces and nephews—Haley, Tadd, Bobby, Berry, Erin, David—and many additional family members, friends, and loved ones who were touched by his presence.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alva W. Dannelly, Sr.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 1012 Whitman Street in Orangeburg. A funeral service will follow on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 594 Calvary Church Road in Neeses with burial will follow at Homeward Bound Ministries, 4082 Norway Road, Norway.  Rev. Bud Judy and Pastor Chris Furtick will be officiating.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tadd Chavis, Bobby Dannelly, David Dannelly, Berry Gambrell, Sean Brickle, Brandon Epting, Bert Sanford and Jaime Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Walker, Dan Garrick, Clark Stillinger, Andrew Williamson, Steven Hutto, Donnie Infinger, Timmy Dannelly, Tony Dannelly, Mark Shirey, Kenny Sanford, T.J. Hutto, Hank Hughes and Jason Fogle.

Friends may call or come by the home of Thomas and Robin Chavis at 1502 Bonnette Road, Cope.

Al's love for farming and the outdoors defined much of his life’s journey. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life lived close to the earth and surrounded by community.
