Miss Bertie Betsill, 89 of St. Matthews died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with burial at Sunnyside Cemetery in Orangeburg with Rev. Henry Cooper officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Miss Bertie was born November 16, 1924 in Orangeburg, SC; the daughter of the late Cornelius M. Betsill and the late Gussie Way Betsill. She worked Richland Memorial Hospital. Bertie enjoyed her career as a licensed practical nurse and loved the people she helped care for. After retiring from nursing she indulged her passion for words, wearing out several dictionaries as she worked on her projects. She wrote a number of poems and loved to recite poetry and play word games. She liked to say that she was "feeding her brain". She was preceded in death by sisters; Lucille B. Crider, Louise B. Smoak, Jennie B. Rowell, Margaret B. Smith, Rosa B. Murphy, Ruby B. Jones and brothers; Julian, James and Johnnie Betsill.
SURVIVORS include a number of adored nieces and nephews and a special friend, Paulette Kendrick of Orangeburg.
FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE funeral home.
VISITATION WILL BE HELD 1:00 to 2:00 Wednesday before the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to express appreciation to all the staff at Calhoun Convalescent Center and Grove Park Hospice for all the tender and loving care given to Bertie during her illness.
