Billie Carter, 91, of St. Matthews passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
A service Celebrating Mrs. Billie’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Mizpah Baptist Church, 289 Fort Motte Rd, St. Matthews, S.C. Pastor Robert M. Carroll, Sr. will be officiating.
Mrs. Billie was born on January 1, 1934, in Orangeburg, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Charlie H. Carter, Sr. and the late Ruth Yancey Carter. Mrs. Billie accomplished many things in her lifetime that she was very proud of, in 1962 she was the Assistant Director with Jolley Acres Nursing Home in Orangeburg. She was the director of the first Ward Secretary program at the Orangeburg Regional Hospital. She was a private duty CNA. In her leisure time she was a writer and artist for the Calhoun Times in St. Matthews. Once she retired, she enjoyed singing, fishing, writing books and became a very talented artist.
Survivors include her daughters, Terri Lynn (Robert) Cody, and Amy Elizabeth Adkins; grandchildren, Sean (Martha) Cody, Ryan (Jessica) Cody, Kenneth “Austin” Merritt, Carter Merritt, Richard Cody; great grandchildren, Amelia Lynn Cody, Elizabeth Mae Cody, Eleanor Ruth Cody; sister, Effie C. Inabinet; sister-in-law, Jeannie Carter and a number of special nieces and additional family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, Timrod Hooker, her brother, Charlie “Tommy” Carter, Jr., sister, Lila Headden, a brother, Dupree Carter, a nephew, Michael Headden, a niece Janet Headden and a great-nephew, Jack Riley.
