Carl Chavis

Some called him Carl, others called him Kenny but his name is Carl Kenneth Earl Chavis, born on April 21, 1954.

On Tuesday October 7, 2025, at 9:26 AM, with his wife and daughter holding his hands, Heaven’s gate opened for the strongest, funniest, hardest working tree logging man after a long battle with lung cancer. He was reunited and now celebrating his daddy’s birthday in heaven.

He was born to Shelly & Geneva Ball Chavis in Orangeburg County. He had 13 brothers and sisters. Surviving siblings are Terry, Tony, Mary Pearl, Elaine, Faye (Danny) Fogle, Pam (Johnny) Godfrey, and Nancy Ethridge. Kenny will be joining his heavenly siblings; Virgil, Roseanne, Robert, Elizabeth, Howard, and Ronald.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Chavis. They have two children, Amy Michelle Chavis and James Wesley Chavis; 4 grandchildren, Kaila (Jeremy) Tarrant, Kira, KJ, and Kaiden; and 1 great-grandchild, Penelope. He leaves behind a cherished nephew, Bubba Charles (Joni) Baughman and special friends, Jim Bozzard and Will Carter.

He loved the outdoors and keeping up with the yardwork. He retired from Williams logging company after working in that field his whole life. He enjoyed goofing around with his family and friends, most especially spending time with his fur-baby Pipi.

The family would like give a special thanks to Edisto Home Care and Hospice namely Neely, Tabitha, and April who provided exceptional support and unconditional love during his last few weeks.
