Carol Imogen (Durant) Hill

December 6, 1938 — August 16, 2025

Carol Imogen Durant Hill, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Manning, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Paul Hill who passed away less than two weeks earlier on August 3, 2025. Mrs. Hill was a devoted follower of the Lord, a loving wife and a dedicated mother to five children.

Born on December 6, 1938, in Plant City, Florida, Mrs. Hill married Paul G. Hill on February 22, 1957. Together, Rev. and Mrs. Hill raised five children: Dr. Paul G. Hill Jr. (Janet) of Marietta, Georgia; Laurie H. Woodle (Jay) of Manning, South Carolina; Debora Hill of Walterboro, South Carolina; Leslie H. Blevins (Ronnie) of Irmo, South Carolina; and Melissa Hill of Blythewood, South Carolina.

Mrs. Hill was an exceptional seamstress, making wedding dresses, prom dresses, gowns and clothes for her children. Mrs. Hill was an avid crocheter of blankets and doilies and loved arts and crafts. She created numerous felt puppet Bible stories for VBS. Mrs. Hill was an avid reader and most importantly, enjoyed reading her Bible.

Her primary focus was as a wife, mother and homemaker. On occasion, Mrs. Hill would also work outside the home. Among those outside jobs, Mrs. Hill taught school for two years at Calvary Christian Academy in Ridgeville, South Carolina, and then taught additional years while Rev. Hill was the principal at Garden City Baptist, Orangeburg. Mrs. Hill was a supporter of her husband’s ministerial roles and as such, was the Women’s Missions Union (WMU) director at their first church ministry position in Morton, Mississippi.

Mrs. Hill was a letter-writer at a time when in addition to phones, writing a letter was the primary method of communicating, taking time to brag on her children and share the latest news in their lives. She wrote a poem about her children that will be shared in her funeral service.

She was a proud grandmother to Zachary Hill; Rosemary Pullen (Blake); Brian LaBarbera (Jolene); Joshua Carter (Jessica); David Carter (Jessica); Christopher Spach; Jessica S. Baker; Cheyenne Weaver (Jeremy); Ashlie Scharber (Hayden); Andrew Brickle (Emma); Averie Blevins; Shelby Lamb (Aaron); Emily Nettles (Andrew); and Nicole Ott.

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Gianna LaBarbera; Brycen Carter; Hadley Carter; Bradley Weaver; Waylon Weaver; Wyatt Scharber; and Maggie Lamb and an expectant child from granddaughter Rosemary Hill Pullen.

Mrs. Hill is also remembered by her sisters Linda Fidler and Peggy Beason, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends—and all those whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her parents Henry “Mac” Durant, and Ida Mae Blackburn Durant Tapenes. Her paternal Grandparents are Elsa Irma McCullers and Charles Reese Durant. Her maternal grandparents were Ella Prevatt Blackburn and William “Papa” Harrison Blackburn.
