Carolyn (Proveaux) Haynes

September 29, 1933 — May 4, 2025

Mrs. Carolyn Proveaux Haynes, 91, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Born on September 29, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Fred and Sophie Jones Proveaux. She was a woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family and community. A lifelong member of Columbia Road Church of God, she dedicated over 60 years to teaching Sunday School and was a cherished member of the Annie B. Dickson Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. Her spiritual guidance touched generations, and her presence in the church will be deeply missed.

Carolyn shared more than 65 loving years of marriage with her husband, Robert Haynes, who preceded her in death. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, and service. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son Dennis Haynes and her brothers Harold Proveaux and Fred Proveaux.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Linda Felkel-Smoak (Scottie) and Sheryl Rogers (Floyd), who carry forward her legacy of strength and compassion. Carolyn’s life was further enriched by her grandchildren: Dawn Burnette (Joey), Robert Fulton (Patricia), Amber Stephenson (John), and Heindrick Rogers (Jolene). Her joy multiplied with each new generation—great-grandchildren Karlie Burnette, Tori Burnette, Mariah Baughman (Jesse), Thristan Fulton (Brittney), Paul Bircheat III (Larson), Britton Fulton, JP Stephenson V (Claire), Shepard Stephenson, Savannah Stephenson, Parker Stephenson, and Brianna Lowery; and great-great-grandchildren Daniel Baughman, Landen Baughman, Kinsley Fulton, Liam Fulton, and Graylin Bircheat.

Carolyn also held a special place in her heart for her goddaughter Jackie Shafer and adopted niece Sonya Judy Chairez. Her extended family includes numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives were brightened by her warmth and generosity.

Known affectionately as “Granny” to many beyond just her family circle, Carolyn had a gift for making everyone feel loved. Her home bloomed with beauty thanks to her passion for gardening—she found joy in planting flowers that reflected the vibrant spirit she brought into every room.

To know Carolyn was truly to love her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, and grace.
