Obituary

Chad brought warmth and energy into the lives of all who knew him.

Chad E. Dilling, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2026, at the age of 27. Born on October 6, 1998, Chad brought warmth and energy into the lives of all who knew him. His journey, though brief, was filled with passion for the outdoors, and creativity.

From an early age, Chad displayed a spirit that craved the natural world. He was a true outdoorsman, and it was among the trees, lakes, and fields that he found the peace. Whether with a fishing rod in hand or tracking through the woods on a hunt, Chad reveled in the beauty and challenge of the wild. His hands crafted beautiful pieces as he lovingly carved wood. At home, his green thumb was evident to anyone who saw the flourishing life he nurtured from seed to blossom.

He is survived by his father, Chad E. (ReNee) Dilling, Sr.; mother, Lourra (Tim) Faethe; two beloved children, Lili Estis and Amon Estis, who will carry their father’s love and lessons forward throughout their own lives. His sister, Mary V. "Ginny" Dilling; his brothers, Justin (Cindel) DiFino and Christopher (Krista) Jeffcoat. His life partner and the mother of his children, Amber Estis and his paternal grandparents, Kimm and Vickie Dilling.

Chad’s absence will be felt by those who preceded him in death: his maternal grandmother, Maxine Gleaton Merrick, and his paternal great-grandmother, Pat Dilling, whose memories live on in the stories told and retold at family gatherings.

His legacy is woven into the lives he touched—not only as a son, father, brother, and friend, but as a man whose generous spirit and joyful enthusiasm for the world inspired everyone around him.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., both at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Pastor Richard Ehrhardt will be officiating.  As we gather to mourn his passing and to celebrate all that Chad brought into our lives, we hold close the many memories and the indelible mark he leaves upon our hearts.

Chad E. Dilling, Jr. will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and always honored.
