Charles Worth Hildebrand, 89 of Norway, S.C. died Monday October 20, 2014.
A Memorial Service for Charles Hildebrand will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Homeward Bound Ministries; 4082 Norway Road in Norway, SC directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Atlanta Braves hats. There will be a place at the Memorial Service for anyone wanting to share written memories and/or pictures with the family.
Mr. Hildebrand was born August 17, 1925 in Sandy Run, S.C. a son of the late Jacob Simeon (Jake) Hildebrand and the late Rosa Bell Saylor Hildebrand. He was a member of the Homeward Bound Ministries in Norway, retired from Savannah River Plant, served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II, he was on ships that served in the South Pacific, Normandy supplying land crafts with what they needed. In 1946, our ships were converted to carry horses to the country of Poland with the United Nations Relief Agency Farmers needed horses to plow with.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Hutto Hildebrand of Norway; three daughters; Marta and Bob Bradford of Augusta, Ga.; Leslie Hildebrand of Aiken, and Lisa and Rosario Cecchini of Orangeburg; one son; Doug and Donna Hildebrand of Four Holes Community, Orbg., S.C.; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to Homeward Bound Ministries, 4082 Norway Road, Norway, S.C. 29113 or to a charity of one's choice.
