Charlotte F Smoak

Charlotte F. Smoak, 93 of Orangeburg died peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at home with loved ones at her side.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Orangeburg Lutheran Church in Orangeburg with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg with Rev. James Vigen officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Burnette, Howard Burnette, Derek Burns, Bobby Burns, Jeffrey Smoak and Bill Rhodes

Charlotte was born February 18, 1922 in Orangeburg, SC; the daughter of the late Ernest Roland Funderburk and the late Norma Olive Smith Funderburk. She graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1939 and went on for a year of Secretarial Training. Among other jobs she worked as executive secretary for Andrew David Griffith for many years at Azalea Meats. In addition to her work, she raised four children, taught Sunday School and played the piano at Orangeburg Lutheran Church as well as playing the piano for Sunday Services at the Orangeburg Nursing Home for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; B.O. Smoak, Jr. a grandson; Dennis O. Smoak; one sister and two brothers.

She will be dearly missed by her children; 2 sons; Roland "Fly" Smoak; Stephen (Alison) Smoak all of Orangeburg; 2 daughters; Patricia (Harry) Cordova of California and Norma Jean Burns of Orangeburg. She was beloved "Granny" to 11 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren and aunt to a large number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, November 16, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, inc. in Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to Orangeburg Lutheran Church; 610 Ellis Avenue; Orangeburg, SC 29115.

There are not enough words to adequately express the family's gratitude to the ladies who cared for her so competently, compassionately and lovingly: Brenda Stephen, Ruthie Fuller and Veronica Fuller.

Finally the family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to all the staff of Grove Park Hospice who provided competent and compassionate care not only to Charlotte but also to the family right up to the very end.
