It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude Wesley Shuler, Jr., a beloved husband, father, granddaddy, and grandpa, who departed this world on December 23, 2025, in the MUSC hospital in Charleston. Born on June 27, 1958, Claude lived a life rich in love and devotion to his family and friends.
Claude dedicated over 25 years of his life driving trucks, a commitment he held until his retirement from J & M Transport in July 2025, just as the shadows of health challenges began to fall upon him. His career was not merely a job, but a testament to his hardworking nature and dedication to providing for those he loved.
Throughout his life, Claude was a guiding light and a source of unwavering love for his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, always seeking opportunities to create lasting memories. His spirit was enriched by being a devoted husband to Katherine "Shan" Shuler for more than 29 years, sharing love that weathered every storm. Claude found joy in his children, Tia R. Allen (Joseph), Claude "C.W." Shuler, III (Miranda), and Hailey Cail (Cody), taking great pride in their achievements and well-being. As a grandparent, he embraced his role with open arms, relishing his time with his grandchildren, Bria Bell, Jolie Bell, Colton Shuler, and Cody "C.J." Cail, Jr., filling their lives with warmth and laughter.
Claude's personality radiated love; he was a family man through and through. He fostered connections and took immense pleasure in the simple act of spending time with loved ones. His hobbies reflected his vibrant spirit—he had an unshakeable fondness for watching Westerns and a passion for playing golf. A die-hard USC Gamecock fan, his enthusiasm for the team was infectious, often rallying friends and family to share in his excitement.
Though Claude's presence will be sorely missed, the love he exuded remains imprinted on the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude W. Shuler, Sr. and Anna Laura Amaker Shuler, his sister Claudette Shuler Warner, and his niece Dana Warner. Their memories live on, intertwined with Claude’s legacy.
In remembrance of Claude’s life, a visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, SC, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate a life well-lived and to share stories that honor the incredible man who touched so many lives.
Memorials may be made in Claude's name to Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. 1012 Whitman Street Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
As we reflect on the years spent with Claude, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on each of us. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will continue to inspire and resonate within our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Claude. You will be forever cherished and deeply missed.
