Her pride in being “Grannie” was unmistakable; she cherished her role as matriarch and poured her boundless affection into every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
With heavy hearts we share the passing of Corrie Lee Mizell, who peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after an illness, just a month shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in Orangeburg on September 21, 1933.
Corrie’s journey began under the guidance of her parents, Mr. Fred Watkins and Mrs. Essie Jackson Watkins, both of whom have preceded her in death. She also joins her beloved husband, Rene A. Mizell, Jr., as well as cherished brothers and sisters. Their presence in her heart was steadfast, and she often shared stories and memories that kept their legacies alive for all who loved her.
Above all, Corrie dearly loved her family. Her pride in being “Grannie” was unmistakable; she cherished her role as matriarch and poured her boundless affection into every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Corrie leaves behind a devoted and loving family. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Jerry) Smoak, Carol J. (Rich) Runnells, and Kimberly (Jeff) Asbury; her sons, Rick (Joan) Brickle, Randy Brickle, Michael (Rosa) Mizell, and Randy Skinner; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
Corrie found great joy and fulfillment in crafts, wood working, and ceramics, transforming simple materials into beautiful, heartfelt treasures for her loved ones. Her talents didn’t stop at her hands—her love poured into the gardens she tended. A green thumb by nature, Corrie delighted in watching blooms unfold and life take root.
She leaves behind not only hand-crafted mementos, bountiful flower beds, and joyful memories of dance and music, but, more importantly, the indelible imprint of her kindness, resourcefulness, and generosity.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Edisto Baptist Church Building Fund c/o R. O'Cain at 3578 Cannon Bridge Road Cordova, S.C. 29039.
As we say goodbye, we hold fast to Corrie’s memory—the love she so freely gave, the home she created through her art and care, and the enduring bonds she forged in her nearly 93 years.
