Cynthia Garrick Barnes, 86 died Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Shane Stutzman and Rev. James Parnell officiating with burial at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Pallbearers include Harold Thomas "Tony" Kittrell, James Norman "Jim" McLean, Sydney Robertson Phillips, Forrest Chandler Shuler, Robert Scott Weaver and Shane Carlton Weeks. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Faith Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and at all other times at the home of Faye Shuler.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Norway, SC ; the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Edward (Mamie Bunch) Garrick. She retired from Southern Bell after working 30 years in the business office. She was a member of the SC Telephone Pioneers. Mrs. Barnes was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church and a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her late husbands, Marion Jerome "Son" Ezekiel and Virgil O. Barnes, her sister Merle Garrick Smith and her brother, Ray Rush Garrick.
Survivors include her sister, Faye Garrick Shuler of Orangeburg; her sister-in-laws; Beverly O'Cain Garrick of Orangeburg, Vida Stephens of Ehrhardt and Avalon McAllister of Meggetts, SC; her nieces, Janet Shuler Weeks (Carol) of Lone Star, Avolyn Brown Phillips (Leslie) and Shirley Brown McLean (Norman) both of Orangeburg; Eloise Davis Fogle of cope; Matrtha Adams Sanders of Columbia and Von Adams Broome of Concord, NC, Bertie Barnes Maxwell (Robert) of Cross, Bobbie Barnes Price (Dean) of Ehrhardt, Peggy Barnes Stiltz (Richard) of Norway, Linda Barnes McCarson of Charleston, Iris Anne Lowry of Columbia and Connie King Felicians of Santa Ana, CA; her nephews, Henry Bernard Shuler (Kay) and Kevin Hale Garrick both of Orangeburg, David Edward Smith (Angela) of Lexington, John Edward Garrick of Gilbert, Robert Joseph Garrick of St. Matthews, JW "Mann" Barnes, Jr.(Donna)of Ehrhardt, Norris Oliver Barnes, Jr. (Viginia) and Joseph Frankie Barnes, both of Hollywood, Michael W. King (Mary) of West Jefferson, NC and Merritt A. Ezekiel of Columbus, GA. She had a number of great-nieces and great nephews.
