Cynthia Dianne Lawson, lovingly known as Dianne, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, September 2, 2026, at the age of 76. She spent her later years courageously battling kidney disease and congestive heart failure.

Dianne was preceded in death by her husband Ronnie, who passed away in April 1999, and by her parents, Earl and Jewell Chavis.

Dianne was a woman of faith who loved the Lord and found great joy in serving Him through music. For many years, she sang in the choir and as a soloist at Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg. Two of her favorite Bible verses were John 3:16 and 2 Timothy 4:7, verses that gave her comfort in the last few years.

Dianne spent many years as a hair stylist, working alongside her mother at Juliet’s Salon. In her later years, she worked at a florist and a daycare before retiring, while also baking cakes for friends and family for their special occasions.

She is survived by her son, Matt Lawson and his wife, Laura, of Canton, Georgia; her daughter, Brittany Sloan and her husband, John, of Springfield, South Carolina; and her grandchildren, Sydney and Mallory Garrick, Case Sloan and Deacon, Eden, and Roman Lawson. She is also survived by her sister, Judy (Lynwood) Smith of North Augusta, South Carolina; her brother, Tommy Chavis of Orangeburg, South Carolina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt.

Dianne’s life will be remembered most by those who knew and loved her…for her love of music, her kindness, and most of all, her love for her family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg. The family will receive guests before the service at 9am. Matt Lawson and Jim Parnell will preside over the service.
