Obituary

David “Davey” Raymond Banks, Jr., age 52, was a loving father, brother, son and friend whose sudden passing has left an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Davey’s life. Visitation will be on Monday, April 20th, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1012 Whitman St SE in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Davey was a devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers and everyone is invited to wear orange and purple.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church, 1250 Columbia Rd., Orangeburg, South Carolina. Immediately after, Davey will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton St., Orangeburg, South Carolina. Dr Shane Stutzman will be officiating.

Friends may also come by “The Pond House” at 191 Little Debbie Lane in Orangeburg between the hours of 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ronnie Rudd, Todd Binnicker, Brad McDougal, Tripp Joyner, Kevin Jackson, Wes Connelly, and Peyton McDougal.

Davey attended Wade Hampton Academy and Orangeburg Prepatory School before graduating in 1992 from Edisto High School. For over 15 years, he was employed with Albemarle Corporation, later SI Group, as a chemical operator, where he built many lasting friendships. He was also very proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter and medic.

Beyond his career, Davey was a man who cherished the simple, meaningful joys of life. He loved being outdoors, whether working in his garden or tending to his tractor, embracing nature with a hands-on spirit. Fitness was important to David; he was a regular 5 a.m. riser, committed to maintaining his health and strength at the gym. He was a lifelong learner, always teaching himself new things. He was known to the family as “the history buff”. He took pride in his studies, research, and always being the one others could count on for answers.

Above all, Davey’s heart belonged to his only daughter, Cierra. He was truly a girl’s dad allowing her to paint his nails, do his makeup and attend tea parties. As she grew, he became her biggest fan, coach, and cheerleader at all sporting events. He never missed a game. There could not be a prouder father. Maggie Valley was their special place. They started every morning with breakfast at Joey’s Pancake House, hiking, and watching Dukes of Hazzard reruns. They’d end the night by sitting on the front porch, talking and watching the lightening bugs.

Davey’s family meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving daughter, Cierra F. Banks (Kenneth Fogle); his mother, Evelyn S. Banks; sister, Dana Banks; uncle, Mack (Carroll) Stillinger; aunts, Debbie (Tony) Byrd, Diann (Lem) Infinger, Beverly Stillinger and Joyce (Bruce) Hughes. As well as cousins Rietta (Aaron) Maier, Lauren (Trey) Jaynes, Gus (Misty) Whetsell and Aidan Whetsell. His niece, Leigha Maier and his cherished fur baby, Daisy and grand fur baby Whitley.

Davey’s life was also shaped by the memories of those who passed before him - his father, David R Banks, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mack C. Stillinger and Henrietta D. Stillinger; paternal grandparents Amos Banks and Margaret P. Banks, step-grandmother Lucille T Banks; and his uncle Mike Stillinger.

His unexpected departure has brought profound sorrow to all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory shines brightly through the love he gave and the many lives he enriched.
