Deborah Maxey Rider, a cherished daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on January 19, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1955, a day that marked the beginning of a life dedicated to love, service, and family. Deborah's career as an Infection Control Specialist at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg showcased her deep commitment to the well-being of others—a reflection of the nurturing spirit she exhibited throughout her life.
Deborah's love for her family was profound and unwavering. She is survived by her beloved mother, Betty Maxey of Smoaks, who was a source of strength and guidance in her life. Her son, Donovan Rider, along with his wife Ashley, brought immense joy to her world, particularly through her precious granddaughter, Olivia Rider, her brother, Eugene "Bubba" Maxey, Jr. of Smoaks, and her daughter, Shannon Evans, along with her husband Keith, of Apex, NC. Additionally, Deborah adored her grandchildren, Austin, Dalton, and Luke Evans.
Her proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her family; she loved them deeply, often expressing how they were the cornerstone of her life. Deborah’s dedication to her loved ones and her innate ability to cultivate warmth and joy created a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Deborah is also remembered for her late father, Eugene Maxey, who preceded her in death. While he is no longer with her, the values he instilled in her continue to resonate, shaping the loving environment she fostered for her own family.
The celebration of Deborah's life will take place on January 23, 2026, starting with a visitation at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM. She will be laid to rest in a burial ceremony at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.
