Donald "Don" E. Hartwig

Donald (Don) Elmer Hartwig, age 83, of North Augusta, SC passed away on March 8, 2022. He was born on March 8, 1939, in Saint Louis, MO. He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Hartwig, and his mother, Edverna Hartwig.

Don is survived by his wife of 28 years, his son, David Hartwig; his stepdaughter, Jennifer (Michael) Page; two grandsons, Kenton Page and Austin Page; two brothers, James Hartwig and Gerald (Carol) Hartwig; and his two nieces Kathy (John) Higdon and Christy (James) Damon and a host of friends.

Don graduated with a degree in engineering from Georgia Tech and in his spare time, he collected and restored old cars. He enjoyed his Ham radio and fixing anything that was broken. He was a practical joker and could not resist a good laugh. Don had a passion for teaching others about anything they would take the time to learn. Because Don believed in education, he decided to donate his brain for research in Parkinson’s disease and his body to science. Therefore, there will be no services.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers and cards that donations are made in his honor to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the care teams at Amedysis Home Health, Amedysis Hospice, and Hands of Life Home Care for their excellent care of Don up to and during the time of his death. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
