Donald Joseph Schoonover, a beloved father and devoted family man, left this world peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter. Born on August 5, 1942, in Niagra Falls, N.Y. Donald touched the lives of all who knew him with his unwavering strength and support. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Della Anna Nelson Schoonover, a son, Keith Schoonover, brothers, George Clayton, Marlin Arthur, and Daniel Frank.

Throughout his life, Donald was a pillar of strength for his family, embodying qualities that endeared him to those around him. He had a multitude of passions, including remodeling homes and nurturing vibrant gardens, particularly reveling in the joy of planting flowers. His love for family was evident in the way he shared his enthusiasm for playing the lottery with his children and grandchildren, hoping to create cherished memories together. Donald's years of dedicated employment at Sanders Supply in Bamberg and his numerous side jobs showcased his hardworking demeanor and commitment to providing for his family.

Donald was known for always being there to lend a hand to anyone who asked. He was a generous soul, ever eager to offer assistance, which made him an invaluable friend and neighbor. His warm personality, characterized by hearty laughter and unconditional love, created an atmosphere of joy during family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations. His presence brought comfort and warmth, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Carol Schoonover and together they raised wonderful children; his loving children, Dwight Schoonover of Maine, Jasca S. Marlett of Pennsylvania, Frank Schoonover of Orangeburg, Ronda Harley of Batesburg, S.C., Eric Miller of Orangeburg; as well as eleven cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Donald Joseph Schoonover's life was one filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for his family. He will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on September 4, 2025, at 3:00 PM to honor his remarkable life and legacy.
