Dora Carolyn Gray was born on February 14, 1945 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. After a short stay with Tidewell Hospice Care in Sarasota, Florida, she entered Heaven’s gates on December 23, 2016 welcomed by her parents, Richard and Gladys Player who preceded her in death.
Carolyn graduated from Edisto High School in Cordova, South Carolina with the class of 1963. On June 8, 1967, she was united in marriage to O. Tyrone Gray in Orangeburg, SC. She made her life here in Cordova, SC. She worked as an administrative assistant at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ethyl, Roper, OC-Tech and SCSC. After leaving the working world, Carolyn was a homemaker, loving and devoted mother and grannie. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, traveling to sport events whether for the grandchildren or Clemson Tiger football games and annual family vacations.
She is survived by her loving husband O. Tyrone Gray of 49 years of Cordova, SC; three children, Dr. Theresa (Carlos Roman) Rashdan of Parrish, Florida, Tracy (Chris) Sandifer of Cope, SC and Tara (Dr. James “Jim”) Cocco of Sarasota, Florida and an “adopted” daughter, Cheray Stillinger of Holly Hill, SC; seven grandchildren - Taylor Sandifer, Austin Sandifer, , Amir Rashdan, Tarek Rashdan, Logan Cocco, Cooper Sandifer and Blake Cocco; two step grandchildren - Ariana Roman, Adison Roman; two siblings - Aaron (Betty Ann) Rudd of Cordova, SC and Kay (Wayne) Johnston of Columbia, SC. Carolyn leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews – Ronnie Rudd, Patricia Huff, Stephanie Thomas, Steven Johnston, Dr. Andrea Maas, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Viewing and visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home from 6- 8 p.m., on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at St. George Baptist Church on 2590 Shillings Bridge Rd, Orangeburg, SC on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. and interment will follow at St. George Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive family and friends at Chris and Tracy Sandifer’s home - 433 Banning St., Cope, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grove Park Hospice of 1324 Grove Park NE, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
