Doris Elaine Mitchell, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Born on May 26, 1956, Doris graced the world with her warmth, her laughter, and her genuine joy in the simple pleasures, particularly her fondness for dining out—Golden Corral being a favorite spot that brought her much happiness. Those who knew Doris remember her as someone who treasured surprises of every size, finding delight in them no matter how grand or small.
Doris leaves behind a loving family that will forever cherish her memory. Among them are her sisters, Lisa Dyches (Bull), Sandy Dyches, Brenda Davis, and Jill Wooten (Ben). She was also lovingly known by her special nieces; Virginia "Ginny" Mitchell (Michael Grant), Amy Bishop (Stephen), Barbara Brant (Shawn), and Carla Amaker, along with nephews James Mitchell, Jr. (Angel) and Bubba Rutland; a niece "in love" Shakeah "Birthday Girl" McDaniel. An extended family of relatives and friends adds to the tapestry of love and remembrance that surrounds her name.
Her journey was preceded by her parents, James W. Mitchell and Estelle Vaughn Davis, and siblings who have passed on: brother and sister-in-law James C. and Cindy Mitchell, as well as her sister, Patricia and brother David.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Following this, a funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM at the same location. Doris will then be laid to rest at Bamberg Memory Gardens, Highway 78, Bamberg, SC 29003.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Doris' name may be made to Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. at 1012 Whitman Street Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
Doris Elaine Mitchell’s unexpected passing is mourned deeply, yet her memory shines brightly—a beacon of love, laughter, and the small joys that filled her days. Those who knew and loved her find comfort in the enduring spirit she leaves behind. Her presence may no longer grace our lives in person, but in the hearts of family and friends, she remains forever cherished and profoundly missed.
