Edna Creech Nettles Gates, 79 of Orangeburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 05, 2026, after an extended illness.
Born in Barnwell County to the late James Brabham Creech and Jessie Zoraida Wood Creech, Edna graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1964. Prior to her retirement in 2021, Edna held numerous administrative roles at businesses in Orangeburg. A devoted member of St. John United Methodist Church, she served as the church secretary for both St. John United Methodist Church and Wesley Grove United Method Church of the Edisto charge, until her health failed.
Edna was predeceased in death by her loving sister, Brenda Weeks Harriott.
Survivors include her two sons Jackie Nettles, Jr. (Ashley) and Craig Nettles; brother, Jimmy Creech (Judy); grandchildren, Austin Nettles, Lilli Nettles (Kearse), Tyler Nettles, Brianna Nettles; great-grandchildren, Hunter Azzarelli, Easton Azzarelli, and her faithful, always at her bedside pup, Skylar. Additional survivors include nephews, Timmy Weeks (Tamera), Terry Weeks (Crystal), Joel Creech, Justin Diggins (Kari) and nieces, Rhonda Headden (David), and Melissa Beckham. Loving cousins, Louise Nettles, Gloria Heh, and Marilyn “Rinky” Still called and visited often, providing comfort and support to “Booty”.
Edna’s sons consistently cared for her every need daily, with additional support from Grove Park Hospice and special caregivers and friends Anita Hein, Carla Amaker, and Crystal Weeks. Affectionally known as “Granny Boo” or “Boo-Boo” by her grands, Edna remained a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
A graveside service will be held at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, Cordova at 3pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with Reverand Willie Clark officiating; visitation will follow.
Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews Timmy Weeks, Terry Weeks, Alan Nettles, David Headden, Ronnie Weeks, Dustin Headden, and Terry Weeks, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St John United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice. Thompson Funeral Home Inc is in charge of arrangements.
