Elsie Ellis Zahuta

Elsie Ellis Zahuta, 89 died Oct. 18, 2014 at her residence in Santee, S.C. She was one month shy of her 90th birthday.

Elsie Minerva Ellis was born November 24, 1924 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. During World War II and for many years following she was a nurses' aide. Elsie met and married Joseph Zahuta in 1948 and became Elsie Ellis Zahuta. They lived a full and happy life for 34 years, living abroad in Italy in the 1950's where Joe was employed. They were fortunate to travel through-out Europe during their time there. When they returned state side, they settled in Toms River, New Jersey where their only son Robert Ellis Zahuta was born in 1958. Joe proceeded her in death in 1982. Elsie enjoyed golfing in her younger years, loved to cook and was an avid reader. She also had a special love for animals, and owned many over the years. Elsie met John Burdge around 1985, and he became her inseparable companion for the next 29 yeras. They remained in New Jersey until they moved to South Carolina in the 1990's. John and Elsie were permanent fixtures in and around Santee, S.C. Both driving vehicles affixed with "Bonnie and Clyde" decals. The local Cracker Barrel was their second home where she was known and loved by everyone.

Elsie is survived by her companion, John and her only son Robert Zahuta and his wife Janet along with a grandson Matthew Zahuta all from Santa Barbara, California. She was predeceeded in death also by her sister Katherine Riley, and her grandson Christopher Zahuta.
