Eugene Battle, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather entered into eternal rest on April 1, 2025, in Orangeburg, S.C. at the age of 80. Eugene was born in Nashville, N.C. on January 30, 1945, and was the second oldest of eight children. He graduated from Nash Central High School in 1963. After high school Eugene started his greatest life adventure by joining the United States Air Force on September 19, 1963, serving his country until November 22, 1967. During Eugene’s military career, he was stationed in San Antonio, TX and Little Rock, Air Force Base. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged.
Eugene appreciated life and enthusiastically took on new adventures. After his military career Eugene moved to New York where he started his professional career with Accurate Envelope Company, a roofing company, the United States Post Office and retired from the State of New York where he assisted mentally disabled clients. Eugene’s career was only part of his life, his hobbies included hunting, fishing and listening to country music.
Preceding Eugene is death includes his father, William H. Battle, mother, Mary L. Alston Battle, sister, Dorothy P. Battle, and a brother, Robert E. Battle.
Eugene is survived by his beautiful wife of 29 years, Ruthie Battle; children, La Jeana Battle, Eugina Battle, Regina Battle McCaskill, Gene Battle, Theresa Battle and Wanda Battle. Siblings, Barbara A. Battle, William M. Battle, Ernestine Battle, John R. Battle and Debra D. Battle. A special nephew, Nathaniel L. Battle, whom he raised as a sibling to Eugene and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg. Pastor Carlton Gibson will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, prior to the funeral service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jovon Rice, Keyontae Anderson, Nicolas Davis, Atony Ramen, John Battle and Calvin Williams.
Burial will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia with military honors.
Eugene will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who love and care for him.
