Eugene Lee "Gene" Irick, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the age of 94. Gene’s final moments were cherished and embraced, surrounded by his family, who treasured him deeply.
Born on August 1, 1931, Gene lived a life filled with labor, love, and joy. He was self-employed as a painter for many years, showcasing his artistic talent and dedication to his craft. Beyond his professional endeavors, Gene served honorably in the United States Army National Guard, embodying a commitment to service and community that would remain integral to his character throughout his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Gene found profound happiness in hunting and fishing. These hobbies not only brought him peace but also created countless memorable experiences that he shared with his family. He was also proud of his accomplishments as an aviation enthusiast, relishing the moments he spent flying his ultralight plane, a passion that enriched his life's tapestry.
Gene leaves behind a loving family, including his children: Dianne Crosby, Pamela (Ronald) Rucker, Richard (Penny) Irick, Billy Irick, Dennis (Wanda) Irick, and Leila Waite. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who will remember him for his kindness and zest for life.
Gene reunites in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Laura Irick, and his departed daughter, Wanda Barbaran, along with his parents, Eugene HD Irick and Lela Shuler Irick, and his brother, Dee Irick.
Funeral services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Visitation is scheduled for February 24, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 12:00 PM with burial to follow at Island Family Cemetery. Pastor Bill Knapp will be officiating.
The family requests that in Gene's honor please wear a camouflage shirt.
Family and friends may visit the residence of Amy Knapp at 15 Calhoun Road, St. Matthews, S.C. 29135.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Robert Irick, Jason Rucker, Hunter Knapp, Tyler Knapp, Caleb Knapp and Mason Knapp.
