Evelyn Austin Johnson Hedgepath, 97 of the Lone Star Community, 2344 McCords Ferry Road, Cameron, SC passed away at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, July 21, 2016.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with the Rev. Paul Hirth and Rev. Tom McElhaney officiating. Burial will follow in Four Holes Baptist Church Cemetery in Orangeburg.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg and at other times at the residence.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are grandsons, William M. Shirer, III (Trey), Roger Lynn Dantzler, Jr. (Rod), Bert Bozard, Wayne Earley, Jim Avent, Rion Moore, Darrell Bagwell and Allyn Bozard.
Evelyn was born on October 3, 1918 in Cameron, SC to the late Leo S. and Meta Parler Austin. She was married to the late Hugh C. Johnson, Jr. and later to the late Corley H. Hedgepath. She graduated from Cameron High School. She was a member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church, Lone Star. In her earlier years, she was employed with Utica Tool Company and later with Cameron School Lunch Program. She was an avid seamstress and quilter and took much pride in the many quilts she hand pieced and quilted for her family and friends. She is predeceased by her husbands, a daughter, Laura Johnson Dantzler, and two sisters, Frances Austin Derrick and Ann Austin Craven.
Survivors include 2 brothers, L. Martin Austin of Greensboro, N.C. and Leo Samuel Austin, Jr. of Conway; 3 daughters, Lorraine (Richard) Gramling of Orangeburg, Margaret (William) Shirer of Lone Star and Dot (Johnny) Dantzler of Orangeburg. Known and loved by all as "Granny" she is survived by 8 grandchildren, Rod Dantzler, Leah (Bert) Bozard, Debbie (Wayne) Earley all of Orangeburg, Trey Shirer and Michelle (Jim) Avent of Lone Star, Kathy (Kevin) Brownlee of Hot Spring, Ark., Rita (Darrell) Bagwell of Matthews, NC and Susan (Rion) Moore of Georgetown. Her great grandchildren include, Allyn Bozard, Amber Dantzler and Catherine Ann Earley of Orangeburg. Travis, Austin, Maggie and Bry Avent of Lone Star, SC, Evelyn, Mary Darby and Marion Moore of Georgetown, SC, Bryce and Meredith Brownlee of Hot Springs, Ark., and Brendan, Cameron and Madison Bagwell of Matthews, NC. She is survived by 2 great-great grandchildren Talynn and Blake Cooper of Orangeburg, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
