Gail Atkinson Pendarvis, a cherished wife, mother and grandmother devoted to her family, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born on February 27, 1960, in Lynchburg, South Carolina, Gail’s life was a tapestry woven with love, devotion, and tender care for those she held dear.

Gail embraced her role as a mother with boundless dedication and cherished the joy of being a “Nana” to her fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her home often filled with the delightful aroma of meals she lovingly prepared, as she truly loved cooking for her family, creating countless memories gathered around the table. Beyond her family, Gail had a deep affection for animals, found peace and fulfillment in gardening, and held a treasured collection of porcelain dolls that reflected her gentle and nurturing nature.

Her personality sparkled with a steadfast love for those around her. Gail’s relationships enriched her life—her beloved daughters, Dana Campbell, Victoria M. “Vicki” Moore (William), and Shari Sumption (Justin), her beloved sisters, Janice Barr (Ronnie), Sandra Allen (Richard), and Angela Atkinson; her brothers, Sandy Atkinson (Beverly) and Virgil “Skeeter” Sanford. Gail was surrounded by a loving circle of nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Though Gail’s passing leaves an indescribable void, the legacy of love she instilled carries on. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Vernon Atkinson, Sr. and Elizabeth Brown Sanford; her stepfather, Virgil Sanford, Sr.; her beloved husband of 48 years, Kris Stroman Pendarvis, Sr.; her son, Kris S. Pendarvis, Jr.; her grandson, Matthew Dalton Pendarvis; and her sister, Harriet Johnson. Each one holds a special place in her life story, and their memories are kept close in the hearts of all who knew her.

A memorial service to honor Gail’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, South Carolina, 29115. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  This gathering will be a time for family and friends to come together to celebrate the extraordinary woman who brought love, kindness, and light into so many lives.

Gail Atkinson Pendarvis’s life was a testament to the quiet strength and everlasting love that define a truly remarkable soul. Though she has departed from our sight, the warmth of her presence will forever nourish the hearts of her family and all privileged to know her. Her legacy endures—in every meal lovingly made, in every garden bloom nurtured, and in every smile she inspired across generations.
