Gene Frederick Walling, 64 of 113 Camp Road; Orangeburg died Monday September 14, 2015 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
The Casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Northside Baptist Church in Orangeburg with burial at Prospect Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Jamison with Reverend Doctor Shane Stutzman and Rev. Jim Parnell officiating.
Pallbearers are Randy Johnson. Ricky Jones, Walter Weeks, Charles Brown,Donnie Trussell, Mackey Martin, Mike Lightfoot, Mike Ferris and Richard Smoak.
Honorary Pallbearers are Communication Workers of America, Telephone Pioneers and active and retired Bell South and AT&T employees
He was born October 10, 1950 in Orangeburg, SC; the son of the late Ralph Lee Walling, Sr. and the late Caroline Smoak Walling. He was one of the first students at Wade Hampton Academy. He retired with over 40 years of service with the Telephone Company, that was first Southern Bell, then Bell South and in the end AT&T. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and baby sitting his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Joan Davis Walling of the home; they were married on December 12, 1979; his children; Gena Walling McCray (Michael) of Louisburg, NC and Ashley Walling Damron (Steve) of Orangeburg and Robert Daniel Walling (Bridgett) of Tennessee; 2 grandchildren; Madison Loretta Damron and Noah Thomas Walling Damron both of Orangeburg; a sister-in-law;Carolyn Kinsey (Tommy) of Cordova; 2 brothers; Ralph Lee Walling, Jr. (Mary Ann) of Sumter and Dewey Walling (Elaine) of Aiken.
Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home. VISITATION will be held 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
