Genie Rucker Murphy, 67 of St. Matthews passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 after an extended illness

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 5, 2014 Gethsemane Baptist Church in Sunny Plain Community; St. Matthews with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Henry Cooper officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Rucker, Glenn Ray Rucker, Jr., Woody Rucker, Dawson Rucker, Matthew Rucker and Ryan Rucker

Genie was born on September 16, 1947 in Orangeburg, SC; the daughter of the late Herbert Lee Rucker and the late Marie Zeigler Rucker. She was raised in the Sunny Plain community in Calhoun County and was a life-long member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a graduate of St. Matthews High School and retired from the South Carolina Department of Social Services. Genie loved spending time with her family, and especially cooking for them, which she did frequently over the years. Her family always had an open invitation to a seat at her table. She had a wonderful sense of humor and has left everyone who knew her with memories and stories to tell. She was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Rucker.

Survivors include her sons; Leon Ray "Smitty" Smith and (wife Amanda), Michael Wayne Smith, brothers Wayne Irvin Rucker (and wife Diane) and Glenn Ray Rucker, all of St. Matthews, 7 grandchildren and one great grand-child.

Friends may call at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Gethsemane Baptist Church.
