George Melvin “Sleepy” Felkel , 75, of Orangeburg (formerly of Elloree) died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 11, 2016 at St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg with burial in the Church Cemetery in Orangeburg. Pastor Steve Dees will be officiating.
Pallbearers are Denny Felkel, Lawton Wiles, Sam Smith, Jason Smith, Andy Jackson and Wendall Salisbury.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men's Tuesday Morning Prayer Breakfast; Co-Ed 5 Sunday School Class and Albemarle Retiree Lunch Buddies.
He was born March 18, 1941 in Calhoun County; the son of the late George Dennis Felkel and the late Geneva Pritcher Felkel. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. He was a member of St. George Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, choir member and a Children’s Sunday School teacher. He is well remembered for his brown bag children’s sermons. His family loved to hear him whistle. He wrote poems for Albemarle employees and many other friends and family. He worked at Albemarle from 1965 to 2003, retiring after 38 years of service. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan and a member of the Gamecock Club. He is preceded in death by a brother, Dennis K. Felkel, Sr. and a brother-in-law, Peter S. Wiles, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Dahler Felkel of Orangeburg; his children, Tracy Dianne Felkel of Elloree, Kristi Darlene Felkel Binnicker (Jonathan) of Elloree, Stacey Pope Besser (Johnny) of Swansea and Lauren Pope Weeks (Ronnie) of Orangeburg; grandchildren, William Dustin Salisbury of Elloree; McKenzie Dillon Salisbury (Bailey) of Cameron; great grandson, Connor Dillon Salisbury of Cameron 2 sisters, Joycelyn F. Wiles of Elloree and Bernadene F. Smith (Walker) of St. Matthews; a sister-in-law; Nell S. Felkel of Elloree; and a number of nieces and nephews; and a beloved pet, Lexi.
