George “Gee” Whetsell Weathers III, 67 of Orangeburg
and formerly of Bowman met his Heavenly Father on
Sunday, May 4, 2014.
Graveside Services will be held 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May
6, 2014 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Orangeburg with Rev.
Charles Elliott officiating directed by Thompson Funeral
Home, Inc. in Orangeburg. A reception will follow at the
First Presbyterian Church Center where the family will
receive friends.
He was born September 20, 1946 in Orangeburg, SC; the
son of George Whetsell Weathers, Jr. and the late
Ruth Smith Weathers. Gee grew up in Bowman, graduated
from Bowman High School and attended Midlands Tech. He
worked at Applied Engineering and later medically retired
from Sunbeam Bakery after 21 years of service. He was an
active member of the Bowman Masonic Lodge and a volunteer
fireman. In addition he was a member of Bowman Southern
Methodist Church and later joined First Presbyterian Church of
Orangeburg. There he enjoyed attending his Tuesday morning
Men’s Bible Study and was a member of the John Knox Sunday
School Class. Gee enjoyed fishing, hunting and working with his
hands by restoring old cars and tinkering in his shop.
He was an adoring husband to his wife Laura Stroman Weathers
of Orangeburg and a loving father to his daughter, Mrs. Harold
Preston (Stacey) Walter of Orangeburg to whom he thought hung
the moon. He is also survived by his devoted son-in-law, Preston
Walter with whom he enjoyed many “ride-alongs” and he also
thought the world revolved around his precious granddaughter,
Adison Walter of Orangeburg; Other survivors include his Father; George Whetsell Weathers, Jr. of
the Oaks; his sister, Dr. Susan Weathers Floyd and her husband Dr. Lane Floyd of Lake
City, a brother, James David Weathers of Bowman and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the residence of his daughter and son-in- law;
Stacey and Preston Walter; 3470 Timberline Drive; Orangeburg.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who assisted in the
home and later the staff of Uni-Heath of Orangeburg who were
considered a second family. Their dedication, love and care will
never be forgotten. The family also appreciates the care of Dr. Vann
Beth Shuler.
