Gertrude Brant Thompson

Gertrude Brant Thompson, 87, of Orangeburg went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Thompson was born on August 17, 1936, in Orangeburg.  She was the daughter of the late Bertie A. Brant and the late Lillie Mills Brant.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marion Daniel Thompson, brothers, Eugene Brant, Fred Brant, John Henry Brant, George Brant, B.L. “Luke” Brant, James Brant, William “Ed” Brant and a sister, Gloria Chapline and her beloved companion, Fred Foster.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Ernie) Rutland of Orangeburg; a son, Jerry Lee (Julie Purcell) Thompson of Leesville; granddaughters, Heather Thompson, Ashley Thompson, Nicole Rutland (Kyle) Williams; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Hunter and Hope Thompson, Mills and Bates Williams; brother, Roger (Mary) Brant; sisters, Betty Carson, Mary Cunio; sisters-in-law, Devone Brant and Ann Thompson Cumbee and a number of nieces, nephews and special friends.

Gertrude loved her family, before her illness she loved to go fishing and take trips to the beach with her sisters.  She had an awesome sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.  She will forever be missed by everyone that knew her and loved her.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Jolley Acres Healthcare Center, who took care of Gertrude, loved her and made her a part of their “family.” As well as the love and support given to her family during Mrs. Gertrude’s illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.  Pastor Gary Warchol will be officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Swamp Methodist Church on Highway #4 in Neeses.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel prior to the funeral service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Billy Brant, Kevin Brant, Mike Brant, Keith Thompson, Kyle Williams, William “Bobby” Wood, Jr. and Timmy Thompson.
