Gus Edward Hughes, Jr. , 84 of died Friday, November 7, 2014 at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 At Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg With burial at Sunnyside Cemetery in Orangeburg with Rev. David Mitchell officiting.
Edward was born January 24, 1930 in Orangeburg County, SC; the son of the late Gus Edward Hughes, Sr. and the late Minnie Rebecca Copes Hughes. He was retired from the City of Orangeburg Water Department of Public Utilities; also retired from the National Guard. He was an avid reader and had a great love of plants and animals.
Survivors include brother ; Ret. Major USAF- Willie R. Hughes and his wife Glenda of Decatur, Ga; sister; Gwen Hughes of Waterford, Connecticut; niece; Mary Kay and (Dennis) Hertlein (Rebecca) Townsend of Decatur, GA; Jeannine Lombardi of Waterford, CT and Camelle ( David) Alter of New Jersey; nephew; David Lombardi of Waterford, CT; great nieces; Kaitlyn Mastin of Decatur, GA and Hannah Alter of New Jersey; great nephews; Max and Sam Hertlein of Decatur, GA; cousins; Shirley ( Robert) Dibble; Priscilla( Charles) Garrick of Orangeburg and Norma Blake of Charleston, SC.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 before the service at Thompson Funeral home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
