Helen (Chavis) Smith

Helen Chavis Smith, 88, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at AGAPE Hospice in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Cameron Baptist Church in Cameron.  Rev. Larry Williams will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ronny Fickling, Hugh “Bill” Jackson, Buddy Jackson, Robert Jackson, Wayne Jackson, Jim Fickling, Drew Jackson and Nick Mooney.

Mrs. Smith was born on November 3, 1929 in Orangeburg.  She was the daughter of the late Lory Harmon Chavis and the late Florrie Hoover Chavis.  She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and she attended Cameron Baptist Church.  Mrs. Helen was the widow of William A. "Bill" Barnes and C. Blake Smith.  She was predeceased by a sister, Lugenia Mack Frye, brother, Earl Chavis and a son Robert Donald “Donnie” Jackson, Sr.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (David) Prescott of Cameron; son, Danny (Cheryl) Jackson of West Columbia; daughter-in-law, Beth Jackson of Columbia; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call the residence of Deborah and David Prescott.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Cameron Baptist Church in Cameron.
