Henry F. Axson,Sr.

Henry Frederick Axson Sr., 69, of Orangeburg, went to see Jesus on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at White House United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Written officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Stacy Axson, Hugo Valentine, Eddie Axson, Robbie Axson, Jess Axson, Matt Proctor, Tommy Stroman, Parker Stroman and Richard Till.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the church prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Axson was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Orangeburg, a son of the late John Robert Axson Sr. and the late Mildred Poole Axson. Fred served in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was with the 101st Airborne Division on Hamburger Hill from May 10 to May 20, 1969. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Army Commendation Medal. Fred worked for Swine Graphics in Orangeburg. He was a member of White House United Methodist Church, where he served as president of the Men's Club and as Sunday school superintendent. He was a founding member of Four Holes Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Axson.

Fred leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Joyce Proctor Axson; a son, Freddie Axson and his wife Lisa, granddaughter Tori Axson and her friend, Ryan Espling, and grandson Johnathan (J.T.) Axson, all of St. Matthews; brothers Edward and Julie Axson of Dorange and Danny and Johnnie Axson of Bamberg; two sisters, Ann and Alton Fortenberry of Spartanburg and Connie and Larry Kidd of Myrtle Beach; mother-in-law Colette Proctor of the Canaan community; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Billy and Peggy Stroman of Orangeburg, Dianne and Donald Dukes of North, and Bruce and Net Proctor of the Canaan community and Ann Axson; and a special companion, his dog L.T.

Friends may call at the residence.

Memorials may be made to the Men's Club at White House UMC, c/o Ann Axson, 217 Bozard Road, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
