Henry embodied values of hard work and perseverance, carving a unique path through his many endeavors.

Henry Willis Metts, Jr., a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Born on September 19, 1944, Henry lived a life marked by dedication, industriousness, and a profound love for his family and community.

Henry was the proud son of the late Henry W. Metts and Sadie Kittrell Metts. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Reta Metts, as well as his sister, Martha Martin. Through all stages of his life, Henry embodied values of hard work and perseverance, carving a unique path through his many endeavors.

True to his reputation as a self-made man, Henry began his career running the family business, Metts Grocery. His entrepreneurial spirit, coupled with a relentless drive, led him to open several local businesses over the years. Henry’s notable ventures included, Pineview Mobile Home Park, Orangeburg Repo Center, Payless Variety Store, and Furniture Showcase of Orangeburg. His business leadership extended further, as he owned and managed, Palmetto Auction and Orangeburg Homes. Henry’s talents were not confined to business alone. His enduring love of farming inspired him to found Rolling Meadow Farms and Carolina Game Birds, bringing new life and vision to these enterprises.

But above all, Henry’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his sons, H. Allen Metts (Cindy) and John Metts (Theresa); grandchildren, Katie Bannister (John), Melanie Mizzelle (Jacob), Jeffery Metts (Stacie), Ryan Metts, Kennadie Metts, and Joshua Metts; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Bannister, Lukas Mizzelle, and Abigail Yoakum. Henry also leaves behind his sister, Edna McAlhany. All those who knew him can attest to his unwavering commitment to his family, always striving to provide and care for those closest to his heart.

Henry’s life was characterized by an energetic spirit and a deep appreciation for meaningful work. He loved to work—finding purpose and satisfaction in each new project and opportunity. For his family, friends, and community, Henry’s legacy rests not only in his professional achievements but also in the steadfast support and encouragement he so generously offered.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Canaan Baptist Church, 4977 Cannon Bridge Road, Cope, SC 29038, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Alan Woodward will be officiating.
