Mrs. Hildreth S. Carter, 82, of Orangeburg passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Carter was born on October 18, 1941, in Jodie, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Hilmer Skaggs and the late Mary Reva Gray Taylor. She was a faithful member of Prospect Southern Methodist Church in Jamison. Lovingly known to her West Virgina family as “Sister,” Hildreth’s heart was divided by spending time in Jodie, West Virginia and in South Carolina. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for the love that she gave her family and her sweet spirit.
Her memory is cherished by her oldest son, Gerald D. Carter, Sr. (Pam); daughters, Andrea Elizabeth Marley, Stephanie Belinda Rose (Michael); youngest son, Colie “Trey” Carter, III (Denise); grandchildren, Gerald David Carter, Jr., Tarah M. Carter, Cynthia L. Carter, Phillip M. Carter, Christina Marley, Elizabeth A. Stanziale, Randel W. Mobley, Calvin R. Mobley, Autumn N. Rose, Tristan G. Carter; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brothers, Sonny Taylor (Marietta), Walter “Junior” Taylor, Jr. (Fran); a sister, Sylvia T. McComas (Michael) and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Walter Taylor, Sr., husband, Colie Carter, Jr. and a sister, April Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Prospect Southern Methodist Church, 585 Waterspring Rd, Orangeburg. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Pastor Sidney Howell will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.
