James E Black

James Elton Black, Sr. 80 of Orangeburg died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his residence.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday before the service Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 Memorial Church of the Nazarene; 569 Berry St.; Orangeburg with burial at South End Cemetery in Bamberg with Rev. Billy Williams officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Mr. James was born November 14, 1934 in Bamberg, SC; he was the son of the late Thurmond Lee "Red" Black and the late Della Young Black. James was raised from the age of 2 by his grandmother the late Minnie Jeffcoat and his father the late Red Black. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. James was a member of Orangeburg Memorial Church of the Nazarene; a member of the Men's Fellowship and the Home Builders Sunday School Class. He was a retired Construction worker. He was preceded in death by a special daughter; Lynda Michele Morris and by 2 brothers; Manuel Steedley and Danny Steedley.

Survivors include his wife; Carolyn Spires Black of Orangeburg; 1 daughter; Melissa Carolyn Black of Orangeburg; 1 son; James E. "Jimmy" Black, Jr. of Arkansas 4 grandchildren; Gabbi Black of Texas; Trae Morris of Ft. Campbell, KY; Aaron Morris of Ackworth, GA; Haley Carroll of Cayce; 1 great grandson; Chase Carroll of Cayce; 2 half-sisters; Alva Leviner and Connie Warren both of the Canaan Community; an Aunt Vergie Corbin of Bamberg and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday before the service at the church .
