IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Michael
Martin
March 26, 1957 – February 4, 2026
James Michael "Mike" Martin, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on February 4, 2026, at MUSC in Charleston with his family close by his side. He was born on March 26, 1957, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. A dedicated employee, James retired from Husqvarna after thirty five years of service, where he created lifelong relationships and lasting memories of those he worked alongside. Always wanting to stay busy in life, after his retirement, he worked part-time at Martin's Auto Electric. He kept up with friends, former coworkers, and family by spending his time at the shop and enjoying breakfast together at various places. He cherished meeting people and made lasting friendships in life from his endeavors at work and his home church, Homeward Bound Ministries.
James was a man who loved his family with his whole heart. He is survived by his wife and "partner in love," Brenda Campbell Martin, of 45 years. Together, they created a home filled with fun and laughter that echoed through the hearts of their children. He leaves behind two sons, Jacob McKinley Martin and Robert Chadwick Martin, including his daughter-in-law, Kayla Robinson Martin, all residing in Orangeburg. James also found immense joy in the company of his two grandchildren, Ethan Chase Martin and Jensen Dean Martin, who brought light and happiness into his life. His family was extended with the attention he received from his "grand-dog" Scout and his loving "Molly" who greeted him daily at home. His love for meeting and sharing their old car collections and treasured hobbies, Mike also displayed his love for the "red truck" with his son, "Chad." Attending car shows in many places of NC and SC, the love for this hobby became a legacy in their hearts. Many friendships and lasting memories have been made through his love for people and opportunities to share in his life.
Family was the center of James's existence, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was also a proud brother to William “Dubby” T. Martin and shared a bond with his nephews, Eric Ryan, of Bamberg, Dennis Martin of Orangeburg, Louis Claytor, Porter Claytor of Cheraw, and Benjamin Harper of Lugoff. James was fortunate to have loving nieces, Robin Rowell, Sharon Baird, and Elizabeth King (Gaylon), all of Orangeburg, and Courtney Stacks of Richmond, VA, who held a special place in his heart. His love for family and friends was everlasting, and the love he received from his wife's family members and friends extended beyond all boundaries.
James is now reunited in spirit with his parents, George McKinley Martin and Ethel Viola Gray Martin, who instilled in him values of love and resilience. He joins his siblings, Mackey Martin, Joyce Ann “Susie” Ryan, Harold Dean Martin, and Ernest McKinley Martin in eternal rest.
The legacy of James Michael (Mike) Martin will be cherished by all who knew him. He will always be remembered for his loving kind heart, his unending sense of humor, and his committed love for his family and friends. His family and relationships at Homeward Bound Ministries have left a mark on his life. Mike's loving spirit touched many lives.
